NICHOLAS A. BASBANES (Lowell, Massachusetts, 1943) es reconocido mundialmente por ser una de las máximas autoridades sobre la historia de los libros y la bibliofilia. La mayor parte de su carrera ha colaborado en medios impresos, fue editor literario del Worcester Sunday Telegram y durante ocho años escribió una columna acerca de libros y escritores.

Su trayectoria como autor inició en 1995 con la publicación de A Gentle Madness: Bibliophiles, Bibliomanes, and the Eternal Passion for Books, que a la fecha se ha reimpreso veinte veces y ha vendido más de 120 000 ejemplares. Otros títulos de su autoría son Every Book Its Reader: The Power of the Printed Word to Stir the World (2005), Editions & Impressions (2007) y A World of Letters (2008).

Paralelamente a su labor como autor, Basbanes continúa escribiendo para varias revistas y periódicos, como The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, y también mantiene un amplio itinerario de conferencias alrededor del mundo sobre temas relacionados con los libros.
