<p>This book offers a first rate selection of academic articles on Latin American bioethics. It covers different issues, such as vulnerability, abortion, biomedical research with human subjects, environment, exploitation, commodification, reproductive medicine, among others. Latin American bioethics has been, to an important extent, parochial and unable to meet stringent international standards of rational philosophical discussion. The new generations of bioethicists are changing this situation, and this book demonstrates that change. All articles are written from the perspective of Latin American scholars from several disciplines such as philosophy and law. Working with the tools of analytical philosophy and jurisprudence, this book defends views with rational argument, and opening for pluralistic discussion. </p>

<p>Eduardo Rivera López is licentiate in Philosophy (Universidad de Buenos Aires) and PhD in Political Sciences (University of Mainz). He has been Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, and H.L.A. Hart (Oxford) fellow. He has published books in Argentina, Spain, Germany, and México, and articles on moral philosophy and bioethics in several international journals, among others: <i>Pacific Philosophical Quarterly, Bioethics</i>, <i>Journal of Applied Philosophy</i>, <i>Philosophy & Phenomenological Research</i>, <i>Journal of Value Inquiry,</i> <i>Law & Philosophy</i>, <i>Utilitas,</i> <i>Ratio, </i>and <i>Journal of Medical Ethics.</i> He is currently full professor at the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella and researcher at the National Council of Scientific and Technological Research of Argentina.<b></b></p>Martín Hevia is Executive Dean and Associate Professor at the School of Law, Universidad Torcuato Di Tella. He earned his doctorate in law in 2007 atthe University of Toronto, Canada and his law degree in 2001 at the Torcuato Di Tella University. Professor Hevia´s research and teaching interests include Comparative Private and Constitutional Law, Health Law and Reproductive Rights, and Legal and Political Philosophy. He is the autor of <em>Reasonableness and Responsibility: A Theory of Contract Law</em> (2013), <em>Derecho Privado y Filosofía Política</em> (2011) and editor of <em>Teoría y Crítica de la Propiedad Intelectual</em> (2017) y <em>Teoría y Crítica del Derecho Privado</em> (2012). His papers have been published in international journals such as <em>Harvard Journal of Health & Human Rights</em>, <em>Texas Law Review</em>, <em>International Review of Intellectual Property and Competition Law</em>, <em>Florida Journal of International Law</em>, <em>Canadian Journal of Law & Jurisprudence</em>, and <em>International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics</em>. His papers have been quoted by Argentine courts such as the National Civil and Commercial Law Chamber. He is the Vice President of the Iberoamerican Association of Law Schools.
